lyrics

A Quiet Pun

Roof top gazing, down the alley,
Waiting mind for things to come.
Back in time to the Telluride valley,
Beauty glistens and off it runs.

And it comes down to a story,
Long ago when time was young,
On a level plain, in a theatre,
I pressed forward and out you sung:

“Take me back to California,
To the balancing, setting sun,
On a road so narrow and winding,
Like a quilt that’s been perfectly strung.”

Wooden planks, discolored and weathered,
Reminds me of many, many things to come.
Over/under, the bets placed already.
Beauty reflects in your chosen one.

And I’ll tell you a tiny secret,
Or maybe it’s really just a quiet pun:
Faith is lost in those who observe it,
When opinions harden and lie undone.

“Take me back to California,
To the balancing, setting sun,
On a road so narrow and winding,
Like a quilt that’s been perfectly strung.”

“Take me back to California,
To the balancing, setting sun,
On a road so narrow and winding,
Like a quilt that’s been perfectly strung.

Take me back to California,
To the balancing, setting sun,
On a road so narrow and winding,
Like a quilt that’s been perfectly strung.”

Roof top gazing, down the alley,
Waiting mind for things to come…
